On a rooftop in Gaza, Noura tends her father’s beloved garden, watering each plant with care and pride. It’s her escape, her joy, and her way of caring for her family especially, her little brother Esam.
But when Israeli drones spray herbicide over the city, Noura’s garden withers before her eyes. As her hope begins to fade, Mama reminds her of Baba’s unshakable resilience, how he replanted, again and again, no matter the loss.
Will Noura find the strength to start over, even when her heart feels empty?

This heartfelt story reflects the strength, faith, and resilience of the Palestinian spirit through the eyes of a child. It gently shows little ones that even in hardship, beauty can be nurtured, hope can grow, and love can sustain us.

Sarah Musa grew up in rural New Mexico among the rivers, desert sage, cats, and usually several library books. She is the second of ten children, home-schooled, and a bit of a rebel. Sarah is the daughter of a Palestinian father and a Hispanic-American mother. Her books are inspired by her adventures, pain, and passions. Sarah hopes the children of our Ummah always feel that they are part of a bigger whole. Growing up in the United States she often was made to feel that she didn’t belong. She writes to give Muslim children stories where they feel represented so that their feeling of belonging can boldly blossom.

Beautifully written and illustrated books! Ruqa-ya's Bookshelf has filled a huge void in our community by bringing Muslim children's books with moral values that children actually enjoy reading and listening to.

I haven't read a children's book that speaks to the plight of the Palestinian people as My Garden over Gaza does. This is beautifully written as all of Sarah Musa's books are, and I found myself tearing up as I read it. The words are beautiful, and the illustrations bring them to life in a way that leaves a mark in your heart that will never disappear. My emotions were high as I read a story about striving, heartbreak, agony, resilience, and hope. These are the Palestinian people in a nutshell. This is easily one of my top 5 children's books and I recommend it to EVERYONE.

Truly short of words to express how amazing this book captures a glimpse in the lives of those oppressed. May Allah سبحانه و تعالى enable this book to be a reason for millions to see what is truly like for people of Gaza. What its like for the innocent children missing their family and deprived of basic necessities in life. Its about time to end the hate, its about time to educate. Get this book in your collection and read at your school, book club, meetups etc and have a conversation. Each one can teach one. May Allah enable us to have empathy, help all to see right as right and stand by justice . Ameen

Javairia Ghazanfar (Pal Education Network)
This book depicts a post-apocalyptic situation that most of us are familiar with only from pleasantly-distant fantasy about zombies or evil governments set in the far future. However, it's about something that is actually happening now, in the real world, and that makes it immensely powerful. My children were silent and hooked all through the reading of this story. They had a lot of questions at the end, and were sobered by knowing that the situation is real and something that real people are persevering through right now. As for myself, I teared up several times and had to do some suspenseful pausing in order not to have my crying voice while reading the book to my kids. It's such a touching and inspiring story -- not only of hardship, but of great hope and perseverence, of family and love and support and memories and home. May Allah protect and help the people of Gaza.

SubahnaAllah. This powerful story had me in flowing tears! If you haven't already purchased it, what exactly are you waiting for? Buy it for your kids, for nieces/nephews, for friends and classrooms. It is a must have! Although Noura is young herself, she is the caring older sister to Esam while her mother works to feed the family. Her father is just a memory for her and her brother but she carries on his legacy of planting and growing crops. This story is full of courage, resilience and hope. As hard as life is for kids in Gaza this story is a tiny glimpse of their existence. This child-friendly narration shows one of the hardships the families may face. There are so many children's stories of war in different parts of the world, it is about time that this story is written to be shared. I love that both author and illustrator are part Palestinian, which gives this book so much more personal touch and meaning. Just an incredibly moving story that is much needed for our shelves to share with the little ones. A must have.

The story express a part of the suffering of Palestinian who live in Gaza. The are monitored by the occupier continually. They are striped from their freedom in their own homes. People of Gaza are resilient and never give up. This story must read and be in every home.

Beautifully written and illustrated to evoke the full range of emotions at a small child appropriate level. These types of books are exactly how we build empathy, kindness, and understanding in our young children for topics that adults today don't know how to think about. THANK YOU for bringing this book to the world. My 2.5 and 4.5 year old love this book. And I love that it keeps us talking about Palestine, family, and nature.
