When war reaches little Amina’s doorstep, she and her mother must leave everything behind... their home, their neighbours, even the sound of peace. Through Amina’s eyes, we see soldiers without smiles, streets turned to stone, and boats far too crowded for comfort.

And yet, through the rumble of fear, her mother’s voice stays steady:

“We keep moving. We have to trust in Allah.”

Sonia Saada

Sonia Saada is a British Egyptian author and poet who believes deeply in the holistic power of storytelling. She writes to spark imagination, build empathy, and encourage young readers to see the difference they can make in the world. Growing up between two cultures, she found her voice in poetry and her passion in stories that explore identity, kindness, and social change. Her work often weaves in themes of compassion and justice, gently inviting children to think about the world around them. Through her books, Sonia hopes to nurture empathic readers—both in classrooms and at home—who listen, question, and care. And though her heart belongs to stories, she’ll never say no to a good cup of tea and a generous slice of cake.

A beautiful, heartfelt story with stunning illustrations, ready for all ages! This little girl's voice and journey made me well up as there is so much heart in this story, both in the words and the illustrations. It became a gentle conversation starter about a heavy but important topic with my children. A must read for every child.

This book uses a powerful metaphor for a young girl's journey to safety. The words provide imagery for her family's difficult decision and change, complemented by the detailed illustrations.

Brought tears in my eyes. Well written book. Beautiful rhymes so relatable with the current migration crisis where so many are forced to flee their homes for survival.
