Ahmed just wants to fly his kite, but nothing goes as planned! Between a broken kite and a calf in trouble, he learns that kindness sometimes comes before fun. This sweet story shows children that helping others, even animals, brings its own special reward.

Sarah Musa grew up in rural New Mexico among the rivers, desert sage, cats, and usually several library books. She is the second of ten children, home-schooled, and a bit of a rebel. Sarah is the daughter of a Palestinian father and a Hispanic-American mother. Her books are inspired by her adventures, pain, and passions. Sarah hopes the children of our Ummah always feel that they are part of a bigger whole. Growing up in the United States she often was made to feel that she didn’t belong. She writes to give Muslim children stories where they feel represented so that their feeling of belonging can boldly blossom.

Beautifully written and illustrated books! Ruqa-ya's Bookshelf has filled a huge void in our community by bringing Muslim children's books with moral values that children actually enjoy reading and listening to.

Such a cute and thoughtful read . The bonus is the discussion questions towards the end . Love the way she writes. We might reread it again after few days just to reinforce :) I hope to see more books like this which instills good character in children bred in North America

My 4 year old boy loves this book and I enjoy reading it as much as he does. Nice story line, subtle lessons about care for animals, resilience, confidence and patience and lovely illustrations. A little gem.

Very cute story that will keep the interest of Muslim children of all ages. Teaches Islamic principles of kindness towards one's parents and towards animals and how to stand up to negative peer pressure, in an entertaining way. The colorful illustrations give children a window into the scenes and culture of Jordan and other Muslim countries. I highly recommend this book. Mashallah.

Ahmed has entered a kite-flying competition, but while practicing the day before, his kite gets stuck in a tree and ruined. On the way to buy a new one from the toy store (which closes at Maghrib) Ahmed notices a baby cow with his mother’s teapot stuck on its leg. Ahmed tries to take it off but it doesn’t budge. He takes her to Amo Waseem, Amo Salih, and its owner Yazan...but by the time the calf gets taken care of and safely home, the toy store has closed and Ahmed can’t buy a new kite anymore. ⠀ Yazan notices his sadness, and not only does Ahmed get a new kite as a gift, but he uses his saved money to buy his mother a new teapot. ⠀ And the next day at the competition, Ahmed is excited to fly his new beautiful green kite.⠀ There are so many lessons in this book:⠀ ⠀ Ahmed wants to make it to the toy store, but he does the right thing and takes care of the cow. ⠀ ⠀ Ahmed ignores the peer pressure from his friend Tariq and stays convinced of doing the right thing, even when it gets harder and harder. ⠀ ⠀ Ahmed takes care of animals- a quality mentioned in many ahadith to be a beautiful rewarded action by Allah. ⠀ ⠀ Ahmad mentions that when you help others, Allah helps you. ⠀ ⠀ And my favorite: Ahmed buys a gift for his mother to replace what she lost- a beautiful lesson on respecting and loving your mother, another beautiful rewarded action mentioned in the Quran and Sunnah.⠀ I love this book and absolutely recommend it!

This warm "true" story portays trusting in Allah to helps those who helps others. And allows ones' kind choices and sacrifice (eg: helping the calf instead of getting a new kite, spending his money for a new pot for his mom etc etc) be a means of getting something better. A sweet story of good choices, and better rewards

Ahmed and the Very Stuck Teapot is a touching story that skillfully comes together in this heartwarming adventure. Based on a true story, a boy must choose between his desires or caring for a helpless calf. It demonstrates the beauty of being good to ones mother, pleasing Allah, and being blessed with a compass to do what is right, even when that choice may be harder. It illustrates the patience one must have when counting on Allah’s reward. I truly felt what the character felt in his struggle and it brought tears to both my husband and my eyes. We would definitely recommend this book as a wonderful addition to your collection.
