Beautifully written and illustrated books! Ruqa-ya's Bookshelf has filled a huge void in our community by bringing Muslim children's books with moral values that children actually enjoy reading and listening to.

Great book, my girls loved the story, which was set in Lamu island in East Africa. The moral of the story was whatever happens in life happens for a reason. We need to look around us to see God’s blessing Everywhere surrounding us.

I was so impressed with this book. ⠀ The book is set in Lamu, an island off the coast of Kenya, and the whole book truly gives the reader a beautiful window into the island and life there.⠀ ⠀ I loved the well-written story, the gorgeous pictures, and the diverse details. The last two pages are an info page about Lamu (near Kenya) and a glossary of Swahili words used in the book.⠀ ⠀ The story follows a little girl who is selling her grandmother Bibi’s mofas (a type of bread). She is in a hurry because she wants to visit her friend, and ends up accidentally dropping them all on the ground. She cries and goes home without making any money, but Bibi says, just like she always does, “Thank God for this blessing.” The little girl is confused...and after more mishaps, asks her grandmother why she keeps saying that, as what blessings can there be in those mishaps!? The grandmother smiles and a creative twist end really does prove that mishaps can end up being a blessing. The little girl ends up learning the valuable lesson of being grateful to Allah for all her blessings, especially the blessing of her wonderful Bibi❤️⠀ ⠀ The lessons in this book are so numerous and wonderful!! ⠀ The book teaches gratitude, patience, love, and creativity!! I loved the relationship between Bibi and her granddaughter and I love how its a unique family structure in an Islamic book!

This book has important lessons that are presented through a very touching story. The bond and love between Mwana and her grandmother is so beautiful and powerful. Mwana values her grandmother's hard work and efforts to earn the little money they can. When she is tried and tested with the hurdles of the day, her Bibi is the one that comforts her. Above all, Mwana witnesses first hand Bibi's wisdom; there are blessing in everything, even though we may not see it in the moment, sometimes it takes patience to see them. The last two pages informs the reader a bit about Lamu Island and its people as well as a glossary. Once again, I just love the exposure this book gives me and my little ones to a culture we know little about and the amazing illustrations bring that culture to life.

"Thank God for this Blessing" of a book :) that teaches us that we mess up ! And things may not go how we planned! But it's still a Blessing indeed and with time comes understanding so stay positive and try to see the good in every situation (which is an important reminder for kids, and adults alike)

I got this with half a dozen others and this is by far my kids (and my) favorite! The message is very relatable, as kids are prone to make mistakes. This book so lovingly guides the reader that it's impossible not to agree, with heart, mind, and all. A real gem!

Beautiful lesson of thanking Allah even when things don’t go the way we want. Great geographical and cultural lesson as well. My granddaughter loves it my grandson not so much.

As usually, another beautiful story from Ruqayyahs Bookshelf. This one had the whole family in tears! The simple reminder that there is khair in all things, whether we can understand it or not, we must be thankful even in the apparent bad in Allahs blessings and plans. I’m so proud to have this beautiful addition and I truly hope every Muslim family adds it to there’s as well. Not just a beautiful reminder and message for kids, but for adults alike ❤️

‘Thank God for this Blessing’ is the theme of the book. Things go wrong with the narrator and she can’t understand how it can be a blessing. She is blessed to have a Bibi that teaches her this important lesson at every opportunity. I loved Bibi’s character and how motherly and patient and thoughtful she is. The setting of the story is placed in a small town where many of the modern conveniences are out of reach. I think this was a very thoughtful choice and something to discuss with the children along with the contentment of the characters in the story. Great for discussing about mishaps and blessings with children and to be optimistic. When bad things happen it’s easy to just focus on that one negative event . This story is a beautiful reminder that things can turn around for the good and we need to focus on the blessings we already have. Jazakum Allahu khairan!
