Mwana lives in Lamu with her grandmother, Bibi. Bibi makes the best mofa bread on the island, and Mwana sells them at the market.

Indeed we are surrounded by blessings

Great book, my girls loved the story, which was set in Lamu island in East Africa.

The moral of the story was whatever happens in life happens for a reason.

We need to look around us to see God’s blessing Everywhere surrounding us.

FAVORITED!

I was so impressed with this book.

The book is set in Lamu, an island off the coast of Kenya, and the whole book truly gives the reader a beautiful window into the island and life there.⠀

I loved the well-written story, the gorgeous pictures, and the diverse details. The last two pages are an info page about Lamu (near Kenya) and a glossary of Swahili words used in the book.⠀

The story follows a little girl who is selling her grandmother Bibi’s mofas (a type of bread). She is in a hurry because she wants to visit her friend, and ends up accidentally dropping them all on the ground. She cries and goes home without making any money, but Bibi says, just like she always does, “Thank God for this blessing.” The little girl is confused...and after more mishaps, asks her grandmother why she keeps saying that, as what blessings can there be in those mishaps!? The grandmother smiles and a creative twist end really does prove that mishaps can end up being a blessing. The little girl ends up learning the valuable lesson of being grateful to Allah for all her blessings, especially the blessing of her wonderful Bibi❤️⠀

The lessons in this book are so numerous and wonderful!!

The book teaches gratitude, patience, love, and creativity!! I loved the relationship between Bibi and her granddaughter and I love how its a unique family structure in an Islamic book!

Beautiful

This book has important lessons that are presented through a very touching story. The bond and love between Mwana and her grandmother is so beautiful and powerful. Mwana values her grandmother's hard work and efforts to earn the little money they can. When she is tried and tested with the hurdles of the day, her Bibi is the one that comforts her. Above all, Mwana witnesses first hand Bibi's wisdom; there are blessing in everything, even though we may not see it in the moment, sometimes it takes patience to see them. The last two pages informs the reader a bit about Lamu Island and its people as well as a glossary. Once again, I just love the exposure this book gives me and my little ones to a culture we know little about and the amazing illustrations bring that culture to life.

Thank God for this Blessing

"Thank God for this Blessing" of a book :) that teaches us that we mess up ! And things may not go how we planned! But it's still a Blessing indeed and with time comes understanding so stay positive and try to see the good in every situation (which is an important reminder for kids, and adults alike)

Kids love it!

I got this with half a dozen others and this is by far my kids (and my) favorite! The message is very relatable, as kids are prone to make mistakes. This book so lovingly guides the reader that it's impossible not to agree, with heart, mind, and all. A real gem!
